In the world of absurd, self-referential video game humor, no one does it quite like Squanch Games. Their upcoming title, High on Life 2, is set to double down on the bizarre and meta with a feature that has surprised and delighted the gaming community. It has been officially confirmed that the game, set to release on February 13, 2026, will not only continue its tradition of featuring full-length, B-tier movies, but it will also include fully emulated, playable versions of notoriously bad retro games. At the top of that list is the infamous 1991 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) anti-classic, Bible Adventures, making it what is likely the only legal way to play the title today.

A Trip Back to the Worst of Gaming History

For those unfamiliar, Bible Adventures was a licensed NES title from Wisdom Tree, a company known for creating unlicensed religious games for the console. It was universally panned for its clunky controls, poor design, and nonsensical gameplay, which involved a bizarre combination of platforming and carrying biblical figures like Noah and Moses. The game has since become a cult classic for all the wrong reasons, a symbol of bad game design and a common punchline in gaming retrospectives.

The inclusion of Bible Adventures in High on Life 2 is a masterstroke of comedic genius. It plays perfectly into the game’s established brand of irreverent humor and fourth-wall-breaking antics. According to a recent interview with Squanch Games’ creative officer, Mikey Spano, the team has “great connections” and went to the lengths of acquiring the official license to include the game. He added that it was a dream of his to include the game, noting that it “sucks so bad to play” but is “great” for the purpose of the game’s comedic tone.

How Will This Work in the Game?

The first High on Life featured full-length movies that could be watched on an in-game television. High on Life 2 will take this concept a step further by integrating the retro games directly into the gameplay and narrative. A demo shown at Gamescom 2025 revealed that the game will feature a sequence where the player’s system is “rebooted” by the new character Senator Muppy Doo, prompting a takeover by Bible Adventures. This meta-narrative twist forces the player to engage with the notoriously terrible game as part of a mission, a brilliant and unexpected way to inject more comedy into the core experience.

In addition to Bible Adventures, Squanch Games has confirmed that there will be “more than five” fully emulated, playable retro titles hidden throughout the game. While the other titles have not yet been revealed, it is a safe bet that they will be equally obscure and notorious, providing players with a trove of bizarre and hilarious Easter eggs to uncover. The combination of these retro games and “B+ tier movies” promises to give High on Life 2 a level of chaotic and surprising content that is truly unique to the franchise.

A New Era of Meta-Gaming

The inclusion of Bible Adventures is more than just a joke; it is a sign of a new trend in game design. Developers are increasingly finding ways to embed other forms of media, and even other games, into their own titles to create a more layered and self-aware experience. It’s a testament to the creativity of developers like Squanch Games who are willing to go to great lengths to provide players with a truly original and memorable adventure. For fans of bizarre gaming history and chaotic comedy, the wait for High on Life 2 just got a whole lot more interesting.
