The long and perilous journey to defeat the Titan of Time is finally nearing its end. Supergiant Games has officially announced that Hades 2 will leave its highly successful Early Access period on September 25, 2025. The full 1.0 version of the game will arrive simultaneously on PC, as well as on Nintendo Switch and the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2. This monumental announcement, which came during the recent Nintendo Direct, marks the culmination of nearly two years of continuous development and community feedback.

The Path to 1.0: A Roguelike of Epic Proportions

Since its surprise launch into Early Access in May 2024, Hades 2 has been a critical and commercial darling, earning an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam. Players have already spent countless hours guiding the new protagonist, Melinoë, through a “bigger, deeper mythical world” in her quest to defeat Chronos. Supergiant has been praised for its transparent development process, with regular and substantial content updates that have added new biomes, weapons, boons, and characters. The final major Early Access update, The Unseen Update, was released in June, and since then, the team has been focused on bug fixes, polish, and preparing the game for its full launch.

The 1.0 version of Hades 2 will introduce a host of new features and content. While much of the final act and story details are being kept under wraps to preserve the “Surprise and delight” that has been a hallmark of Supergiant’s games, it’s been confirmed that the full version will include the final conclusion to the story, new combat mechanics, and a significant amount of new dialogue and interactions for the game’s rich cast of characters. The developers have stated that the 1.0 release is the largest single content update the game has received to date, and a testament to the four-and-a-half years of dedicated development that have gone into the title.

A Cross-Platform Launch and the Switch 2’s Power

For console players, the news is a cause for celebration. Hades 2 will be a timed console exclusive for the Nintendo Switch family, with the digital version launching simultaneously with the PC 1.0 release. The game will be available on both the original Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2, with the next-gen console offering a significant performance boost. Supergiant has confirmed that Hades 2 will run at a buttery-smooth 120 frames per second in docked mode on the Switch 2, a major draw for players seeking a high-performance experience on a portable console. Additionally, cross-saves will be enabled across all platforms, allowing Early Access players on PC to seamlessly transfer their progress to their Switch consoles and continue their journey on the go.

The decision to launch on multiple platforms at once, and to use a new Nintendo console as a key part of the release, is a powerful statement. It demonstrates Supergiant’s confidence in the game’s universal appeal and their close partnership with Nintendo. While the digital version will be available on September 25, a physical retail edition for the Switch 2 will follow later on November 20, which will include a full-color Character Compendium booklet and a reversible cover, making it a must-have for collectors.

The launch of Hades 2 is more than just a new game release; it’s a major event for the industry. It’s a testament to the power of independent game development and the success of the Early Access model when it is executed with skill and transparency. As the community prepares for the final push to the full release, the countdown is on for one of the most anticipated titles of the year. The journey beyond the Underworld is about to begin, and a whole new audience of heroes is ready to meet their destiny.
